Role Summary/Purpose The Performance & Optimization Senior Engineering Manager will bring domain expertise and experience in thermodynamic performance and optimization to guide and lead a software development team while working directly with Product Line Leadership and Services teams to design and deliver the best in class product.
Essential Responsibilities
* Act as the liaison between the software development team and other functions and customers to ensure essential product requirements and specifications are translated into clear and measureable deliverables
* Provide domain expertise in thermodynamic performance and optimization both on the asset and plant wide levels
* Guide and lead software engineers in understanding product vision, features, functions and usability requirements
* Provide input to software quality assurance teams to develop test and validation procedure ensuring defect free software
* Estimate, budget and allocate software resources effectively throughout the software lifecycle to maximize business and customer value
* Ability to clearly articulate and document software product user experience via user personas and product usage scenarios
* Provide application engineering support to other cross-functional teams including the Engineering and Services groups
* Serve as the expert in performance and optimization product development
* Translate product requirements from Product Line Manager into stories suitable for the software development in an Agile software development environment
* Create, communicate and drive a clear operating and prioritization rhythm for the software development team
* Mentor software engineers bridge the gap between thermo-economic domain and software development
* Establish a clear communication rhythm while working as part of a global team with counterparts distributed throughout the globe
Qualifications/Requirements
* Bachelors or Masters degree in mechanical or chemical engineering from an accredited institute
* Minimum 8 years of industry (oil & gas and/or power generation) or academic experience

Desired Characteristics
* Demonstrated expertise in thermodynamic and optimization principles, including modeling, mathematical calculations and applications
* Proven record as a team player with strong communication and presentation skills
* Capable of handling shifting priorities and customer needs in a fluid, fast-paced services and product development environment
* Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of software development tools and Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft operating systems
* Experience in fossil fired power plant operations including thermal performance evaluation and testing
* Experience in oil & gas plant operations including upstream and downstream
* Background or experience with GE performance monitoring and optimization software product suites including but not limited to: Bently Performance, GateCycle, EfficiencyMap, Plant Payback, System 1
* Experience with modern tools and software for:
* Online and offline thermal performance monitoring software for individual assets and overall plant
* Design and off-design performance predictions of power plants and other energy systems
* Heat, mass and energy balance models
* Data error analysis including error propagation
* Equipment and plant degradation
* Linear and non-linear optimization techniques
* Thermal-economic optimization
* Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies
* Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
* Able to apply principles of logical or scientific reasoning to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
* Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
* Able to work under minimal supervision
