Role Summary: The Composites Manufacturing Technician is in charge of prototyping advanced glass and carbon fiber composite components for wind turbine blades, composite layup and molding using vacuum resin infusion, and hand layup.
Essential Responsibilities: As the Composites Manufacturing Technician, you will:
Operate shop and laboratory equipment, including layup stations, ply cutter, molds, resin and epoxy mixing systems and related equipment
Coordinate and perform mold setup, fabric cutting, placement, resin transfer, adhesive application, mold closing, and composite finishing
Optimize processes to produce high quality parts with required consistency and reliability
Troubleshoot and diagnose a wide variety of technical issues
Drive process improvement and equipment modification, and monitor impact on the manufacture of parts
Document standard operating procedures for daily operations, inspections, maintenance, EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) and safety compliance
Team with design engineering and other stakeholders to improve process capability and manufacturing ability
Perform other assigned duties as required
High School Diploma / GED
Experience with production of fiber composite components, such as wind turbine blades and boat hulls, as well as operating relevant equipment
Experience with layup, molding, and/or manufacturing with composites
Self-motivated, able to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently
Team focused, with the ability to recognize a need and communicate to the team for help
Proficiency in reading and interpreting drawings, schematics, and written instructions
Previous knowledge of fixture design
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent organization and documentation skills needed for creating, issuance and maintenance of work instructions
