The Lead Logistics Specialist, Chemicals will be a key leader on the Chemicals Supply Chain Team. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the transportation network transporting goods across a complex supply chain spanning North America, which includes suppliers, multiple manufacturing & packaging facilities, warehouses and field stocking locations.

With consideration for economic success, environmental protection and social responsibility, the successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing logistics data, leading & participating on cross-functional teams and partnering with multiple stakeholders to improve the logistics performance of our division. The successful candidate will join a group of Logistics Professionals to support and optimize the execution of Chemicals Logistics. Deliverables will include improving service levels across the Chemicals division, reducing cost, improving the visibility of distribution related information and supporting Carrier Management efforts. The ability to connect logistics and transportation management to day-to-day operations in a way that increases the value we deliver to our final customers is key!
Under the day-to-day supervision of the North America Logistics Manager, the incumbent will:
Define, support and execute logistics performance improvement plans in alignment with the Chemicals Supply Chain and Field Operations teams to support end-to-end optimization and performance improvement.
Execute projects as needed, including data analysis, dash-boarding & reporting, to bring visibility and insight into daily logistics activities across the business.
Facilitate cross-functional communication for the purpose of supporting cost reduction, service & reliability improvements and improved end-to-end coordination.
Support North America transportation vendor management with logistics service providers, through direct interactions with vendors (as needed), the development & review of vendor performance score-cards, and other measures as needed.
Support all compliance and regulatory efforts related to transportation and vendor management.
Responsible for supporting the technical details of domestic and international transportation—multiple modes, complex documentation, and varying customs regulations.
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or similar discipline, and/or commensurate business experience.
7 years of experience with Chemical distribution / 3 PL management / Dangerous goods handling.
Minimum 5 years work experience with exposure to inventory practices, logistics activities, process improvement and project management / support.
A thorough understanding of Supply Chain principals, and use of modern IT tools and theories to link these principals to results.
General understanding of ERP systems, with project management experience leading change efforts involving ERP & similar applications
Knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma; ideally green belt or similar certification in project management.
APICS or similar certification
Experience within a high SKU, high turnover, complex supply chain spanning North America
Direct experience in a transportation network involving bulk chemical (Rail & bulk truck) and packaged (drums or similar containers) across North America.
Chemical hauling experience highly preferred; hands-on experience gained in a terminal, plant, packaging facility, warehouse or delivery function highly desirable.
Experience in dispatch.
Experience negotiating carrier contracts, especially in the bulk chemical and / or hazardous materials industry.
Experience managing 3PL relationships, including TMS services.
