The Package Engineering Leader is responsible for driving savings in transportation, materials and product installation through packaging optimization for all GE Healthcare modalities and facilities in the assigned region(s). This includes inbound and outbound packaging ensuring defect free deliveries while also driving the 3R’s – reduce, reuse, recycle for cost savings and sustainability.
Providing packaging expertise for product protection and efficient transport & delivery
Identifying opportunities for cost savings based on chargeable weight for transportation
Driving the identified opportunities across P&L’s and ensure savings are tied to ledger.
Insuring 100% compliance with all global packaging related regulations
Providing support for shipping hazardous materials
Supporting GE Healthcare’s Global Packaging Requirements document
Providing guidance for global standardization, consistency and quality compliance
Working with engineers early in the new product development cycle to affect product design for efficient and economical logistics
Quality Specific Goals:
Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position
Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines
Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required.
Knowledge and understanding of International Trade Compliance, identify, report and resolve any trade compliance issues.
Knowledge of operating within security programs such as CTPAT and AEO to ensure that warehousing, packaging and transportation requirements are met.
Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing/production process procedures and work Instructions and operates within them to ensure compliance to quality system. Ensures the creation of accurate, complete and timely records tied to product.
B.S. Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or related technical degree and 3 years of experience in production, engineering or troubleshooting of PC/server based systems
Expertise in packaging engineering for small and large industrial products, especially related to shock, vibration and environmental protection for electronic products Knowledge of the global transport environment for surface, air and ocean distribution
Knowledge of global material handling equipment and practices for large products
Knowledge of global hazardous material shipping regulations
Strong analysis capability with financial data to develop cost reduction business cases
Good computer skills, specifically using Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint
Ability to communicate using English
BS or MS degree in Packaging Engineering or a related Engineering field
Minimum of 5 years experience in packaging of large, heavy electronic products
Experience with shipping dollies and other material handling equipment
Experience with shock & vibration testing to ASTM D4169 and/or ISTA standards
Certification for shipping hazardous materials by Surface (49 CFR), Air (IATA) and Ocean (IMDG)
Experience with packaging related global environmental regulations
Ability to CAD model package designs and create Engineering drawings
