Role Summary: The Senior Communications Manager is responsible for building and maintaining the image and reputation of GE in Japan. The candidate will lead the development and execution of external communications strategies to maximize GE’s share of voice and message delivery to target audiences in support of the company’s growth in the region.
Essential Responsibilities: • Responsible for all external communications covering news, announcements and stories, to protect and promote the GE brand in Japan • Develop and update GE’s messaging/proof points/business stories to ensure relevance and consistency to the GE story in market • Lead media strategy and execution to amplify GE’s key campaigns across print, broadcast and digital media channels • Develop solid and trusting media relationships to ensure we have good access to channels and opportunities to tell our story and reach our external target audiences • Accountable for setting and achieving Media & PR metrics – maximize GE’s share of voice and message delivery to target audiences in Japan • Lead issues and crisis management to protect GE’s corporate reputation in Japan, working closely with relevant internal stakeholders • Manage GE’s owned digital platforms (GE Reports Japan and websites) and drive amplification in other digital channels • Provide external communications counsel to GE Japan executives and support their media/external interactions including media interviews, speaking opportunities, etc • Proactive planning, constantly looking around corners and evaluating emerging communications methods to ensure GE Japan’s communication is modern, contemporary, simple and effective
Qualifications/Requirements: • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college • Ten or more years of experience in corporate communications/media relations, agency experience is a plus • Good understanding of Japan’s media landscape and strong relationships with key general and business media • Issues and crisis management experience is a must • Excellent oral and written communications skills with an ability to simplify complex content in Japanese • Strong oral and written communications skills in English
