Role Summary: The Production manager will be responsible for a new pilot scale manufacturing facility based in Stevenage in the UK that is being commissioned to provide a flexible launch capabilities for a number of new commercial products. This presents an opportunity for an individual with the appropriate skills and experience to play a major part in the layout & fitting and staffing of the new premises, building in efficiency & high performance from day one.
Essential Responsibilities: They will work closely with R&D, product/process development and launch teams to enable rapid translation of breakthrough technologies that will improve the manufacture of medicinal products to benefits patients worldwide. This will require an individual that has an ability to manage development of new production lines whilst the final product formats are in flux.
They will manage and develop the production processes to ensure company’s targets and objectives are met to meet customer requirements, ensuring staff comply with health, safety and standard operating procedures. Strive to continually improve using Lean tools to reduce costs, improve production and quality.
Going forward as the facility is commissioned they will lead a manufacturing functional team that fully utilizes resources to meet the scheduled activities of the Manufacturing Group. Supervising daily shift activities in their assigned functional areas and works with team members to cultivate a winning manufacturing attitude and creative work environment. Maintains accountable for the training, development and performance management of team members in a functional area.

Works with other managers throughout manufacturing to generate continuous improvement ideas and spearheads the implementation of those ideas that lead to bottom line results.
Track and report metrics in their functional area to include labor hour consumption, work order completion, inventory accuracy, throughput, capacity and customer complaints. Establish team goals that meet or exceed established quality standards.
Develop and manage operational budget for their functional area.
Implement business unit objectives and manufacturing department goals in each functional area.
Create production schedules and allocate machine and labour resources
Deal with quality complaints, taking corrective and preventative action
Assess new project resource requirements
Take responsibility for management of Health & Safety
Create & maintain standard operating procedures and ensure adherence to them
Develop and operate a preventative maintenance program for plant, tooling & machinery
Assist the management team in budgeting & forecasting
Deal with training and personal development needs for the team
Monitoring and improving productivity, while ensuring all customer commitments are met in a timely, quality and cost-conscious manner
Developing and creating training plans to maximize workforce capability
Leading Compliance, as well as Environmental, Health & Safety efforts in support of plant goals
Production, supply chain experience or leadership
Prior Team Leading experience in a manufacturing environment
Working within the chemistry or pharmaceutical industry
Working with pilot scale processes or larger using solvents and flammable materials
Working to quality management systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485 or GMP.
