Role Summary:
As a Global Operations-HR Intern you will be exposed to Lean business practices while providing support for one or more Payroll & Benefits process(s). Develop effective relationships with the internal and external suppliers that administer the process. Assist with identifying and resolving operational issues & support process improvements. Gain experience working cross functionally with internal teams and suppliers.

Essential Responsibilities:
The following are the areas of opportunity for the operations internships. All internships will require completion of a mutually agreeable project and support for the team’s daily operations.

  • Affiliate Services: This team partners with GE Affiliates to provide pay and benefits expertise, so fiduciaries can ensure compliance and cost effective delivery.
  • Benefits: The Operations function includes managing an integrated system of record for employees and dependent records for accurate and compliant eligibility, coverage, and benefits administration; supporting areas such as Health and Productivity, Health Care Benefits and Programs, and Life and Family Services.
  • Communications: This team is comprised of professionals delivering clear, concise communications to GE employees and their family members. As part of the team, there will be involvement in the overall planning and development of benefit communication strategies. Other responsibilities include writing and editing benefits text for various media including monthly newsletters, web site content, letters and other communications.
  • Customer Care: This team supports the Benefit, Payroll and Retirement teams in areas of call center operations, call quality, and escalated employee cases. The team designs and develops metrics and dashboards and has continued focus on improved customer service.
  • Digital Alliance Team: The Digital Alliance Team works closely with functional, operational and technical teams across Global Operations and beyond to promote and drive digital solutions that will transform the customer experience, connect digital solutions with the customer perspective and analytics, and inspire a customer-focused culture. The team strategically leads and partners on cross functional initiatives and projects that align with the digital strategy for the organization.
  • Executive Compensation and Tax Compliance: This team focuses on core Executive Compensation plans while integrating with Tax compliance including global and US mobility services for highly compensated employees working across all GE businesses.
  • HR Data Governance & Operations: Data Governance team will partner to design the necessary configuration of Work Structure items (including, but not limited to, Locations, Organizations, Payrolls, Jobs, Grades, etc.) and other segments of the database such as EITs, Elements and OHR-related Alerts. They are responsible for maintaining and analyzing data from the HR systems.
  • Payroll: This team collaborates with internal teams and the GE businesses as a lean operation to provide payroll processing, support and troubleshooting for our North American region.
  • Pension/401K: The Retirement Center of Excellence Team is responsible for the administration of the Retirement Savings Plan (401K) and GE Pension Plan. This is including but is not limited to pension data recordkeeping, coordinating payments and rate calculations, working with third party administrators, reconciling file feeds, and communicating with plan participants.
  • Sourcing: This team is responsible for supporting the selection, maintenance and termination of the organizations suppliers. This includes but is not limited to RFPS/RFIs, contract negotiations, creation of Statements of Work or Service Agreements, and communicating effectively to suppliers across all programs.
  • Workforce Management & Analysis: This team is responsible for the flow, maintenance and continuous improvement of employee data in PeopleSoft. This data is sourced from HR systems and supports pay, benefits and pension operations/processes.


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Must be a full-time, matriculated student at an accredited college or university for the entire internship
  • Must be a Senior or in Grad School with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must commit to one year (no summer internships)
  • Must meet minimum hour requirements:
    • 20 hours per week during school
    • 40 hours per week when school is not in session
  • Must be authorized to work in the US


Desired Characteristics:
  • Demonstrate organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Self-motivated and can manage multiple simultaneous tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to learn fast
  • Desire to learn and achieve communications position Only
  • Must provide a minimum of 2 writing examples as part of submission, i.e., school newspaper, persuasive essays, articles and/or thesis reports. These samples should show various writing style and use of grammar and exhibit creativity.
  • Skilled in Photoshop/InDesign
