GE is an equal opportunity employer. • The Imaging Subsystem (ISS) team, designs and manufactures x-ray generation and detection components or parts (e.g., x-ray tubes, CT and x-ray detectors, tanks/generators). These components are used in Healthcare Systems (HCS) products that use x-ray to perform diagnostic imaging tests, including: CT, Interventional, Surgery, Mammo and Radiology/Radiology & Fluoroscopy (R&F). These x-ray components form the "heart of the system" and are integral to the delivery of world-class image quality. Due to the environmental conditions and technologies required, these components pose very complex engineering and manufacturing challenges. For example: o The hottest point in an x-ray tube is hotter than the surface of the sun. o The G-forces experienced by the CT image subsystem are higher than those in a space shuttle launch. o X-ray tubes and generators are built with mechanical tolerances that are a fraction of a human hair. • One of the other critical elements to success is the presence of a strong Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team. In addition to handling the most difficult process issues, this team also plays an early role in NPIs ensuring that products and processes are designed in order to achieve optimal process capability during product launch. The mission of AME is to provide a steady stream of new and advanced technology for products and manufacturing processes to meet and solve the challenges of our business and customers.
Role Summary: This position provides mechanical engineering design leadership for processes and subsystems of medical devices. The position works to identify and execute strategic engineering efforts in Advanced Manufacturing Technology(AMT) and improved product quality through focused process and product design changes. This role requires cross-functional interaction with global and local design, sourcing and manufacturing teams in order to ensure the goals set forth by the business.
Essential Responsibilities: • Work on Advanced manufacturing process design and developments. • Lead failure analysis of mechanical parts, assemblies in manufacturing or field • Analyze parts assemblies with respect to manufacturing process, GD & T, Design for Manufacture (DFM) for new products and existing products • Design & develop of special purpose machines (SPM), Tools, Jigs, Fixtures and Gauges etc. Work with suppliers on process development, audits. • Leading design visualization efforts with 3D CAD models and essential component and assembly details to explore multiple design options of product, tools and processes • Developing innovative designs to meet all requirements for performance, reliability, cost and manufacturability. • Leading quality-engineering projects that provide imaginative solutions to engineering and customer issues. • Developing and maintaining mechanical subsystem quality and advanced manufacturing project funnel • Providing guidance and requirements to new product development, manufacturing and AME teams in order to improve quality of new releases. • Verifying product sub-system, equipment and process reliability performance. • Conducting analysis of product failures and using six sigma tools like FMEA, Weibull Analysis and DFR tools. • Supervision of employees and resource contractors. • Comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position • Act as activity leader of department activities within a project. (Time-plan, resource need, status reports, monitor costs, resource usage, technology requirements and solutions etc) • Technology management within assigned field. (internal and external). To initiate development of new technologies. • Accountable to choose design concepts and solutions, components, tools and methods. • Conduct Technical Design Reviews(TDR) • Within the job competence cover possible patents. • Maintain and develop competence required for the job.
Qualifications/Requirements: • Masters degree in Mechanical & Tool Design from reputed Tool design Institute. • Hands on experience in solid modeling (Preferably Pro E/ Creo) & Drafting. • Sound knowledge of Manufacturing process (Machining, joining, forming), GD & T, Tolerance stack up analysis, Jigs Fixtures, Gauges design and mechanical engineering design principles. • Design for manufacturing experience
