Role Summary:
GE Digital is seeking a Staff UX Design Researcher to join the DTS - Design and Experience Engineering team. In this role, you will help create useful and desirable software product and service experiences for the industrial internet of things. As a Staff UX Design Researcher you may lead or be an individual contributor to multiple user experience engagements as well as work on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized business domains.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Create specific design principles that capture the vision
    and critical concerns for a project.
  • Propose design or product solutions based on research and
    synthesis outcomes.
  • Select and use appropriate design research methods to
    address design opportunities.
  • Plan and conduct interview sessions with users and
    stakeholders, including executives.
  • Builds consensus among individuals and groups.
  • Identify and summarize meaningful insights derived from
    design research 
  • Lead multiple projects of various sizes in a
    cross-functional environment
  • Advocate for user research and help champion buy in from
    stakeholders and businesses 
  • Produce and guide effective documentation of research and
    testing including notes, photos, video and resulting analysis
  • Participate in and begin to influence the business-wide
    discussions relative to the future direction of user experience initiatives
  • Lead evaluation of current and emerging design, technology,
    industry, and market trends.
  • Demonstrate a mastery of Agile / Lean UX methodologies



Qualifications/Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interaction, Graphic, or Industrial
    Design preferred or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and
    Math)
  • A minimum of 5 years professional experience.

  • Leads individual interviews/workshop with individual
    contributors.
  • Creates research protocols with guidance. Selects
    appropriate research methods to answer questions and develop holistic
    understanding of user and customer needs.
  • Facilitates group understanding of research data; leverages
    data to derive actionable insights.
  • Identifies appropriate synthesis techniques to meet the
    needs of specific business and design situations.



Business Acumen:



  • Understands the competitive landscape, regulatory marketing,
    etc. Articulates clearly the main industry dynamics.
  • Understands key principles of design thinking, what it is
    and why it is important. Explores all ideas, regardless of their source.
  • Works to create an understanding of how individual people
    and things fit within larger structures (like systems or organizations), as
    well as the relationships between parts of a system and the system as a whole.
  • Understands the existing architecture of GE’s Predix
    software portfolio and GE’s design systems. Understands what constitutes a
    well-defined technical architecture.



Leadership:



  • Creates basic project plans for UX projects or the UX
    portion of a larger development project. Continuously measures deliverables of
    self and team against scheduled commitments. Effectively balances different,
    competing objectives.
  • Keeps participants focused on task and end process. Guides
    participation to include all present; solicits information about absent
    stakeholders.
  • Expresses UX and design concepts to collaborators on cross
    functional teams. Goes beyond merely presenting designs, explains the story of
    the rationale and benefit of design ideas.
  • Understands the value of a rigorous and transparent
    decision-making process.
