Role Summary: GE Digital is seeking a Staff UX Design Researcher to join the DTS - Design and Experience Engineering team. In this role, you will help create useful and desirable software product and service experiences for the industrial internet of things. As a Staff UX Design Researcher you may lead or be an individual contributor to multiple user experience engagements as well as work on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized business domains.
Create specific design principles that capture the vision and critical concerns for a project.
Propose design or product solutions based on research and synthesis outcomes.
Select and use appropriate design research methods to address design opportunities.
Plan and conduct interview sessions with users and stakeholders, including executives.
Builds consensus among individuals and groups.
Identify and summarize meaningful insights derived from design research
Lead multiple projects of various sizes in a cross-functional environment
Advocate for user research and help champion buy in from stakeholders and businesses
Produce and guide effective documentation of research and testing including notes, photos, video and resulting analysis
Participate in and begin to influence the business-wide discussions relative to the future direction of user experience initiatives
Lead evaluation of current and emerging design, technology, industry, and market trends.
Demonstrate a mastery of Agile / Lean UX methodologies
Bachelor’s Degree in Interaction, Graphic, or Industrial Design preferred or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
A minimum of 5 years professional experience.

Leads individual interviews/workshop with individual contributors.
Creates research protocols with guidance. Selects appropriate research methods to answer questions and develop holistic understanding of user and customer needs.
Facilitates group understanding of research data; leverages data to derive actionable insights.
Identifies appropriate synthesis techniques to meet the needs of specific business and design situations.
Understands the competitive landscape, regulatory marketing, etc. Articulates clearly the main industry dynamics.
Understands key principles of design thinking, what it is and why it is important. Explores all ideas, regardless of their source.
Works to create an understanding of how individual people and things fit within larger structures (like systems or organizations), as well as the relationships between parts of a system and the system as a whole.
Understands the existing architecture of GE’s Predix software portfolio and GE’s design systems. Understands what constitutes a well-defined technical architecture.
Creates basic project plans for UX projects or the UX portion of a larger development project. Continuously measures deliverables of self and team against scheduled commitments. Effectively balances different, competing objectives.
Keeps participants focused on task and end process. Guides participation to include all present; solicits information about absent stakeholders.
Expresses UX and design concepts to collaborators on cross functional teams. Goes beyond merely presenting designs, explains the story of the rationale and benefit of design ideas.
Understands the value of a rigorous and transparent decision-making process.
