Role Summary:
GE is building operations teams focused on building world-class application platform services. These teams are composed of highly talented individuals obsessively focused with availability through operational excellence. Essential Responsibilities:
  • Lead development and operationalization of solutions that enable services, applications, and platforms for GE business teams migrating, developing, or implementing OpenSource database solutions 
  • Partner with leaders in GE Software Development teams and business IT teams to implement future technology strategy, tools, processes and improvements 
  • Develop and maintain new tools and services to support rapid growth in cloud migrations 
  • Provide technical coaching and direction to more junior teammates
  • Quickly respond and resolve critical service outages severely impacting consumers 
  • Assist in establishment of performance baseline, capacity thresholds, correlate events, and define monitoring/alerting criteria
  • Assist in developing automated solutions to address potential problems before they result in a service interruption
  • Create automation for programmatic deployment and management of tools used in production environment
  • Available 24x7 to lead critical issue/problem resolution to complex problems where analysis requires in-depth evaluation with imaginative and innovative troubleshooting and experimentation
  • Establish performance baseline, capacity thresholds, correlate events, and define monitoring/alerting criteria 
  • Develop automated solutions to address potential problems before they result in a service interruption
  • Build dashboards, bots, micro services to address the operational issues. 
  • Develop availability measures that align with consumer experience to accurately assess the usability of crucial services
  • Programmatically monitor for and remediate configuration drift of critical devices 
  • Develop response plans to potential failure points and evaluate effectiveness during planned tests 
  • Perform comprehensive operational health checks of the entire services to identify areas of concern and track activities to drive improvements at all levels of the architecture


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management, similar STEM degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 3 years experience supporting application platform services.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills.  


Desired Characteristics:
Technical Expertise:
  • Hands-on experience with DB administration & Disaster recovery solutions
  • Experience in OpenSource technologies like Postgres, MySQL, Oracle
  • Demonstrable knowledge of continuous development & continuous integration process and framework for keeping cloud up to date with latest patches, security fixes & releases
  • Strong hands on experience with container orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Experience managing version control systems such as Git 
  • Experience public clouds such as AWS or Azure 
  • Demonstrated experience scripting or developing software and services for the cloud with one or more of the following automation scripting coding languages(shell, Powershell, Ansible, Python, Chef, Puppet, Bash, Ruby, Python, Go, Java, Node.js, .NET, etc. )
  • Experience using an automated configuration management system (Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt, etc.) 
  • Experience with configuring, customizing, and extending monitoring tools (Datadog, Sensu, Grafana, Splunk, etc.) 
  • Knowledge and experience using Analytics Software Packages like Matlab, SAS, JMPro etc. Programming experience with open source scripting and data analysis packages like Python R 
  • Experience managing version control systems such as Git 
  • Experience deploying and managing infrastructure on public clouds such as AWS or Azure 
  • Experience in identification of database operational automation and information needs. 
  • Expertise on automation and deployment in large scale database support environment. 
  • Experience with maintaining and prioritizing automation backlog for event correlation and reduction, incident triage, and request fulfillment. 
  • Exposure to ServiceNow Orchestration for Automation of identified opportunities
  • Demonstrable experience in developing advanced Oracle 12c RAC architecture designs and support models within a Linux environment. 
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience in Oracle operational support best practices 
  • Advanced knowledge of Oracle database tuning practices
  • Certification – Oracle Database 12c
  • Experience in Database Cloud support environment 
  • Oracle Linux Virtualization (VMware) Experience

  • Experience in mission critical IT operations support environments 
  • Ability to effectively interface with all levels of the organization and external customers 
  • Experience working in a global organization
