Role Summary: Provides legal leadership and strategic legal advice to GEHC across the APAC region (which includes Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand) as well as having responsibility as GC for Japan. The role is expected to drive towards business growth and more integrated and efficient processes; ensure compliance and industry regulatory affairs (HHS, FDA and CMS strategies) are managed appropriately; and play an active leadership role across the Legal function in GE Healthcare for APAC and Japan
Essential Responsibilities: 1. Being an active business partner to the Executive team of the GEHC APAC and Japan region, continually working to identify strategic opportunities to increase growth/ reduce costs 2. Drive cross-business, global and regional synergies to maximize effectiveness of the global GE Healthcare APAC and Japan legal team 3. Structure and negotiate complex transactions and oversee outside counsel management 4. Take a leading role with respect to government relations activities, including contact with high-ranking government officials, development of lobbying and other strategies key to success of the APAC and Japan region 5. Lead and develop the legal team within the GEHC APAC and Japan region 6. In conjunction with the Senior Counsel for Litigation, coordinate the management of litigation across the region 7. Support compliance investigations and compliance projects and work closely with the GEHC compliance team to lead GE Healthcare Compliance Review Boards for the region
The role is to be based in Tokyo and Hino, and reports functionally to the General Counsel of GE Healthcare, and operationally to the President and CEO of GE Healthcare APAC as well as the President and CEO of GE Healthcare Japan.
Qualifications/Requirements: 1. JD (or equivalent) with active Japanese bar membership. US bar membership a plus. 2. At least over 10 years of business law experience at a large international law firm or a multinational corporation’s legal department, including but not limited to drafting, negotiating and closing complex business transactions in a regulated environment. 3. Demonstrated experience identifying and resolving complex legal issues quickly and effectively and the ability to make on the spot risk calls. 4. Demonstrated experience prioritizing conflicting demands from multiple business clients in an extremely fast-paced environment. 5. Strategic thinking, strong business acumen and ability to lead legal function to navigate through challenges to achieve customer results 6. Ability to effectively communicate in both English and Japanese. Any other language skills a plus.
Desired Characteristics: 1. Experience of the Healthcare industry and previous exposure to medical industry regulations (FDA, Medicare/Medicaid anti-kickback) 2. Demonstrated experience providing legal advice in a highly regulated industry that drives business outcomes 3. Proven global team leadership experience and ability to function as a senior member of a management team in a multi-culture environment
