Role Summary:
As a Senior Staff Data Engineer, you will be part of a data engineering or cross-disciplinary team on software development projects, typically involving large, complex data sets. These teams typically include statisticians, computer scientists, software developers, engineers, product managers, and end users, working in concert with partners in GE business units.



Essential Responsibilities:
The Data Engineering team helps solve our customers' toughest challenges; making flights safer, power cheaper, and oil & gas production safer for people and the environment by leveraging data and analytics. The Senior Data Engineer will work with the team to create state-of-the-art data and analytics driven solutions, working across GE to drive business analytics to a new level of predictive analytics while leveraging big data tools and technologies.

In this role you will:

  • Analyzes, designs and develops a roadmap, design pattern, and implementation plan based upon a current vs. future state in a cohesive architecture viewpoint.
  • Leads the research and evaluation of emerging data technology, industry and market trends to assist in project development and/or operational support
    activities.
  • Implement Data warehouse & Big data designs with automation and data quality capabilities.
  • Demonstrate proficiency at industry standard data tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend, ERWin, ER Studio, etc.).
  • Integrate domain data knowledge into development of data requirements.
  • Works across multiple cross-functional teams in high visibility roles and own the data solution end-to-end
  • Participates in setting strategy and standards through data architecture and implementation leveraging big data and analytics tools and technologies
  • Designs high level solutions and leverages techniques across diverse data sources.
  • Must have superior communication skills - both oral and written



    Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree. Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) preferred, plus 8 years data & analytics development
    experience for large organizations
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a technical area (Architecture, Software, or Information Technology) or (a high school diploma / GED with at
    least 8 years of experience in Information Technology or Software).

    Eligibility Requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of
    individuals with particular skills.
  • Must be willing to travel (up to 20%)



    Desired Characteristics:
  • Demonstrated experience in translating customer need into data and analytics requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, development, verification, and validation of descriptive, applied, predictive, and prescriptive analytics for applications
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more development tools and languages (e.g., R, Python)

    Technical Expertise:

  • Strong knowledge of big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Sqoop, Ambari, Hbase.
  • Strong knowledge of ETL technologies such as Talend, HVR, Informatica.
  • Experience with scripting such as Python, Jaql, Ruby.
  • Experience working in Agile SDLC .
  • Familiarity with cloud architectures such as AWS.

    Business Acumen:

  • Ability to understand business processes impacting data architecture.
  • Ability to collaborate with functional and regional stakeholders to align business processes to arrive at data architecture capabilities.
  • Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts.
  • Has the ability to analyze impact of technology choices .
  • Skilled in negotiation to align stakeholders and communicate a data & analytics strategy.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of technologies in the market to help make buy vs build recommendations, scope MVPs, and to drive market timing decisions.
