Role Summary:
Lead and perform design and analysis of mechanical components of the Wind Turbine Yaw System. The Design Engineer supports the product through the entire life cycle from conceptual design through design and development, testing, qualification, manufacturing and installed fleet support. They drive technical excellence and continuous improvement in the design, cost, productivity and reliability of the component(s) under their responsibility.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Design/Analysis of the structural components by means of FEA and analytical methods
  • Testing to prove component function and reliability
  • Provide innovative design solutions to meet aggressive timing, product cost and reliability targets
  • Create and revise drawings and specifications
  • Work cross functionally with quality teams, manufacturing engineers, sourcing, suppliers…as part of the product development cycle
  • Identify and execute cost saving ideas and strategies
  • Support manufacturing, sourcing and field support with issue resolution and quick corrective actions for design related causes (nonconformities)
  • Drive quick, complete technical root cause analysis of field failures and identify design related corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Support global supply chain activities for quality assurance and fulfillment across the globe
  • Identify and execute cost saving ideas and strategies
  • Drive lessons learned, best practices and standardization into drawings, specifications, design practices and processes


    • Master Degree in Mechanical/Structural Engineering
    • Very strong engineering experience in Design/Product Development in the field of mechanical design
    • Proven experience in designing components like gears, gearboxes, bearings, bolted joints, brakes...
    • Fluent in English, written and spoken
    • Knowledge of Standards and Design Codes like IEC, GL, ISO, OSHA and EN
    • Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
    • Technical drawing and design interpretation background
    • Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries

      Desired Characteristics:

      • Working knowledge of Unigraphics NX 3D-CAD
      • Working knowledge of Ansys/Workbench
      • Experience in yaw system design for wind turbines
      • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
      • Experience/knowledge in main recognized design codes, guidelines and standards
      • Experience in fatigue analysis, structural dynamics and experimental validation
      • Knowledge of different manufacturing processes used in structures
      • Engineering experience in medium-big size civil or industrial companies
      • Ability to work under pressure and challenging conditions. Strong desire and ability to drive improvement and change
      • Willingness to travel
