Role Summary:
The Project Manager, will be responsible for estimating, scheduling, procurement and executing Research Projects and Facility Infrastructure Projects that will comply with all building codes and OSHA requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:
As a highly motivated self-starter and key member of the facilities staff you will provide leadership in the development and execution of multiple construction projects that support research and operations at the GE Global Research Niskayuna site. You will work with a diverse team, including engineers, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), research staff, Facilities management, construction/engineering contractors and a unionized work force to deliver all aspects of the project life cycle, including but not limited to, scope development, creating/reviewing bid specifications, estimating, procurement, scheduling, directing workforce, commissioning/startup and project closeout. You will be responsible to work with safety and compliance teams to ensure a safe work environment.


You will:

  • Manage execution of various types of projects with GE union trade labor or through contracted 3rd party companies
  • Work with researchers, engineers and other Project Managers to understand the business impact, scope and cost of each project
  • Develop partnerships with the technology customers to drive process improvements
  • Prioritize workload, establish and meet aggressive timelines for project completion
  • Provide customers with regular communications including progress updates and issue resolution
  • Communicate with union representation to clearly identify business objectives
  • Manage a team of hourly GE union trade labor to meet EHS, quality and productivity goals
  • Coordinate communications between EHS, engineering, GE union trade labor and customers to insure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal codes and requirements
  • Utilize Six Sigma methodologies to improve customer service by delivering cost effective solutions to meet client expectations
  • Conduct required safety meetings

    Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical, construction or engineering field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical and electrical construction fields, including proven ability to scope, estimate, schedule, procure materials and oversee the construction of projects OR Associate's Degree in mechanical, electrical, or construction technology with a minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical and electrical construction fields, including proven ability to develop project work scope, estimate, schedule, procure materials and oversee the construction of projects OR a High School Diploma with a minimum of 20 years practical construction/engineering experience in mechanical and electrical construction fields, including proven ability to develop project work scope, estimate, schedule, procure materials and oversee the construction of projects
  • Experience in industrial construction experience specifically installing process equipment and facilities infrastructure
  • Demonstrated experience working small and large-scale projects (i.e. $0.25M – 10M)
  • Experience in design build construction projects
  • Strong and broad knowledge of cost estimating of construction projects
  • Strong ability to develop RFP’s for projects
  • Strong ability to execute projects safely
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings for all engineering disciplines
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office including MS Project
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required; w will not sponsor individuals, now or in the future, for this job opening
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY
  • Must be 18 years or older

  • PMP certification
  • OSHA 10 or 30-hour construction training
  • Knowledge of NYS building codes, NFPA and 70E Arc Flash Requirements
