Role Summary:
As a Wind Turbine Mechanical Design Engineer in the Land Constrained Hub Subsystem team, you will be at the forefront of wind turbine technology and systems design in GE Renewable Energy Onshore Wind. You will influence wind turbine product development and oversee the development of hub subsystem fabricated parts from concept to implementation.

Essential Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical accountability for fabricated components in the hub subsystem on the global onshore wind turbine platform. He/she will drive to identify key risks and subsequent mitigation plans. He/she will lead new product introduction programs and support the growing fleet of GE wind turbines


  • Own component design lifecycle of fabricated parts in the hub subsystem, including hub hatches, steps, brackets, and cabinets
  • Complete Finite Element Modeling of components and defend results at Chief Engineer reviews
  • Author technical specifications and produce detailed drawings of parts for manufacturing. Support sourcing qualifications and supplier quality assessments
  • Interface with external suppliers and sourcing to develop design cycles that meet wind turbine new product introduction delivery targets
  • Drive should-cost assessments to meet component cost targets
  • Resolve field issues and provide technical support to product service engineers
  • Develop and drive tests to validate component capability and reliability
  • Guide continuous improvement on analytical tools relative to fabricated part capability and cost optimization
  • Communicate design details and technical recommendations to senior leadership
  • Assess field data to improve operability and reliability of responsible parts

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Structural, or Material Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited college or university
    • Strong industry experience in mechanical systems and/or component design
    • EU Work Permit

    Non-national candidates are responsible to know the minimum documentation requirements to be able to be contracted in country: NIE- Social Security Affiliation Number in Spain (NAF) and Bank Account in Spain. They must be in possession of them at the time of start hiring. GE will not sponsor this requirement.

    Desired Characteristics:
    Technical:


    • Deep domain knowledge of structural design and analysis
    • Expert knowledge of ANSYS or other finite element analysis tools
    • Fluency with technical drawing and GD&T
    • Experience with 3D-CAD tools such as UG
    • Experience in renewable energy or power generation technology
    • Experience translating product and system requirements to component-level technical requirements

    Leadership:

    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
    • Self-starter with drive towards technical excellence
    • Ability to work in a matrix team environment
    • Proven track record of technical project leadership

  • Willingness and ability to travel 10% per year
