Role Summary: The Failure Analysis / Reliability Engineer will perform failure analysis of mechanical and electrical failures in electronic assemblies including solder joint reliability, mechanical and electrical failures due to electrical stress, shock and vibration as well as thermal cycling, stress, strain and other wear-out mechanisms. Report on Component Physics of Failure to improve long term reliability, derating guidelines, and improve design of component to meet specific applications.
Essential Responsibilities: As the Failure Analysis / Reliability Engineer, you will:
Analyze electrical & mechanical failures and design tests to determine root cause and recommend corrective action
Design and perform accelerated tests to assess field risk due to product failure
Collaborate with development and component engineers to qualify new electronic component packages and materials
Work with electronic component and piece part fabricators to ensure electrical & mechanical robustness of part which may include strain gage analysis and mechanical stress simulations and short term electrical stress simulations
Conduct Design for Manufacturability Reviews on new product introduction projects and identify components at risk of mechanical stress/strain and make recommendations for mitigating risk
Work in an analytical laboratory equipped with analytical tools among which are Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) / Energy Dispersive X-Ray(EDX), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), tensile tester, stain gage measurement system, cross section equipment, chemical decap, optical microscopes, Ionic Contamination Analyzer and live X-ray
Instruct supporting engineers and laboratory technicians to properly setup and execute failure analysis tests
Prepare detailed customer failure analysis reports documenting product test data with pass/fail criteria, strain gage measurement plots, and equipment details
Report all non-conformances to the appropriate Quality and Technology teams
