Role Summary: The Strategy, Search & Evaluation (SSE) Manager will be part of a global Strategy, Search & Evaluation (SSE) team which supports the Chief Technology Officer’s (CTO) organization within GE Healthcare Life Sciences and will be part of a multi-site, multi-disciplinary team to enhance top line revenue growth and profitability for GE Healthcare Life Sciences.
Essential Responsibilities: The SSE Manager will assess new markets, technologies and early innovation in the life sciences while providing program support. The individual will formulate and execute external opportunity sourcing and assessment strategies leading all phases of the transaction process including analysis of inorganic strategy and markets, target identification and screening, structuring, valuation, due diligence, negotiation and closing. The individual will perform global market segment analysis, gap analysis relative to the business unit portfolio, and define strategic and tactical steps to best position the company for accelerated growth.
The SSE Manager will work with colleagues in the Strategy, Search & Evaluation (SSE) team reporting to the Global Head SSE, will work closely with the CTO Leadership (CTO LS) Team, all the R&D functions within GE Life Sciences, the GE Global Research Center, GE Ventures and GE Business Development teams to create a common vision and roadmap for the company in areas of strategic growth for GE Life Sciences. The primary focus will be on strategy development, “sensing” future scientific / technological breakthroughs, developing a partner ecosystem for the business, securing the right external alliances with industry and academic partners and developing the appropriate business models for GE to become a leader in the innovation ecosystem for GE Life Sciences.
The SSE team is a centralized hub for identifying, assessing and incubating breakthrough technologies for all business units within GE Life Sciences. The team provides direct value to GE Life Sciences through accessing new assets and platform technologies, with the objective to be a force multiplier for the organization.
Perform in-depth market research and competitive analysis to enable a long-term vision and roadmap for the company. Develop strategic insights that enable GE to capture new growth opportunities.
Drive thought-leadership and provide program recommendations. Present ideas, thoughts, and projects to senior management, serve as a recognized expert and resource leader. Primary scientific contact and spokesperson for GE Life Sciences within the given geographic region.
Work with leadership to manage communication and alignment with key internal stakeholders to support effective decision making and transaction approval processes.
Assess potential licensing, acquisition, collaborations, co-development agreements, and strategic alliances in relevant opportunity space and specific geography.
Provide thorough and timely assessments and updates to appropriate management levels to ensure efficient communication and seamless cross functional collaboration.
Make presentations on behalf of GE at industry networking events, scientific conferences and other venues.
Responsible for the quality of the formal due diligence output, integrating internal and external subject matter experts for senior management review and approval.
Assist in the coordination and prioritization of the portfolio of search & evaluation projects. Helps to ensure the success of the overall portfolio.
Advanced science degree (MD, PhD, MPH): focus on genomics, cellular research, cell and gene therapy with a strong business mindset.
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in technology evaluation commercialization of technology or startup portfolio management.
Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and Skype-for-Business and familiarity with mobile communication technologies, such as remote data access, cloud-based data sharing, mobile video/audioconferencing.
Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and creative problem-solver.
Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail.
Ability to synthesize multiple data points to create strategic point of view. Experience performing market analysis and competitive landscaping.
