Role Summary: The Regional Customs Leader – [Region name] defines the customs strategy for the region in line with the strategy and process outlined by the Global Process Leader (GPL) for Customs. This role will report to the NAM Global Ops Leader and functionally to the GPL for Customs.
Lead Customs strategy and operationalize the delivery model for the region delivering on all operational aspects of import and export activities as defined by the global customs enterprise standard.
Provide strategy and leadership in the development and implementation of Customs regulations, and other government agency requirements affecting imports and exports in the region.
Lead and develop regional customs team while interfacing with BPO and other third party suppliers/vendors to execute on customs initiatives.
Implement and drive an operating rhythm to hold the team accountable to operational metrics, on time deliverables and budget. Identify risks and develop, recommend, and implement risk mitigation solutions.
Ensure the regional process is meeting or exceeding cost, quality and speed performance targets, and delivery of quality to our business partners.
Work in partnership with the Global Customs Business Relationship leaders to ensure that we meet our GE business partners’ needs and that we communicate with them on an ongoing basis.
Execute on the strategy set by the GPLs of various customs processes such as special programs, FTA, Classifications, and Agents by working in partnership with theses GPLs.
In partnership with our Global Supplier Manager, manage strategic third party business process outsourcing relationships, develop operational rhythms to monitor all third party managed activities and drive ongoing process improvement.
Ensure effective stakeholder management to drive buy in, engagement & change; escalate critical issues in a timely & effective manner.
Identify Customs risk areas, evaluate related internal controls and develop procedures to mitigate and address identified risks.
Act as the primary contact for Customs officials regarding inquiries, audits or in resolving complex Customs matters.
Serve as a change agent by seeking, sharing and implementing best practices gained by interacting with peers in the industry.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
Minimum strong experience in Customs, Operations, or Supply Chain
experience leading a team
Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% of the time
University degree in a Customs related area such as supply chain management, business administration, or international trade, preferred
Customs Administration Diploma, Brokers License or Professional Broker Status preferred
