Role Summary: Avio Aero is Type Certificate Holder for different turbofan and turbo-shaft aero engines for military application. It is an engine system integrator responsible for the applications of the Italian Air Force, Army and Navy. The Military Engine Performance Lead Engineer will work in the Performance organization, which has the ownership and responsibility of engine performance and has to guarantee the support of the performance discipline required by the different programs activities.
Essential Responsibilities: The Military Engine Performance Lead Engineer will:
perform aero-thermal engine cycle studies on assigned program
perform engine test planning, coverage, and data analysis for engine tests on the assigned program
utilize the latest thermodynamic modeling tools to analyze engine performance data and make program recommendations
contribute to validate and update the NPSS engine thermodynamic modeling tools on assigned program
improve the state of the art with respect to gas turbine thermodynamic modeling techniques.
For the certified engine applications is required to:
directly support national customer activities and requests (e.g. in-service monitoring and performance analysis to support investigation of events)
internally support the Avio Aero engine and module technical leaders, the flight test centers, FSR (Field Support Representative) and NSO (National Support Organization)
support the engine test centers both of Avio Aero and national customers (maintenance and update of the performance calculation software as well as the update of the pass-off control limits)
keep under statistic control the performance of the engines tested in the Avio Aero and customers’ test cells
support test cell calibration activities
participate to the consortia performance working group and support their activities according to the applicable terms of reference
guarantee the necessary maintenance and keep updated the Avio Aero proprietary engine performance models.
The Military Engine Performance Lead Engineer is required as well to support performance improvement programs and engine module/component redesign through:
cycle or enhanced cycle definition
definition of design change performance targets
definition of expected performance parameters to support performance validation tests or engine certification tests
matching and analysis of engine test results
engine performance audit.
Master Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Energy Engineering from an accredited university or college
Experience in aerospace industry
Excellent English and Italian language knowledge (speaking and writing/reading)
Strong analytical skills
Knowledge of thermodynamics and aerodynamics
Experience in engine thermodynamic modeling and test data analysis
Understanding of engineering technology and tools
Programming skills and knowledge of high level program languages (e.g. C++, MATLAB/Simulink, FORTRAN)
Attitude and capability to perform system level analyses
Good interpersonal and communication skills
EU Work Permit.
Steady state and/or transient engine performance modelling experience with typical industry thermodynamic modeling tools (NPSS, Proosys or other object oriented platforms for simulations of aerospace systems)
Experience, exposition or involvement in issues related to integration with engine control system, aircraft systems or field/in-service engine support
Knowledge of FORTRAN programming language
Attitude and capability to provide technical guidance to other personnel
Project planning capability including: work tasks, project scope, schedule and budget.
