Role Summary:
The Senior Environmental Expert has deep knowledge of Environmental laws and regulations, including those associated with energy use and sustainability, applicable to GE's fixed facilities and service operations. Provides technical support and leadership necessary to drive compliance, meet customer requirements, and achieve regional excellence by working to meet the needs of the GE Businesses and OneEHS. This leader also works with regulators and operational management as needed.



Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manages and coordinates a broad spectrum of initiatives simultaneously
  • Serves as the region’s Environmental lead expert on air emissions management for applicable EU regulatory requirements and industry standards
  • Supports and guides site and distributed workforce EHS managers on Environmental issues, across all media, including permitting, energy use and sustainability
  • Works with Business EHS to understand and advise on ISO certification strategy and supports operational execution
  • Understands and serves the needs of GE fixed and distributed locations
  • Understands and serves the needs of GE businesses and OneEHS functions
  • Drives compliance and the reduction of risk
  • Drives operational and cultural change, simplification and cost-out, across Regional and Global OneEHS, and interacts cross-functionally.
  • Maintains a relationship with regional environmental regulatory bodies
  • Coordinates regional best practice sharing
  • Be flexible and be willing to pivot priorities based on the needs of the Region and the function.


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or extended studies in an Environmental discipline, from an accredited college or university or equivalent knowledge & experience
  • Demonstrable competence (qualifications/training/experience) in European and international regulations concerning Environmental risk management.
  • Must speak English fluently
  • Proven years overseeing the execution of EHS programs
  • Expertise in Air emissions characterization and management

•Must be willing to work preferably out of UK, Germany, France, Italy. Other EU countries can be considered

Desired Characteristics:
  • Extensive experience with one or more GE businesses within the region
  • Other language capability
  • Deep knowledge of GE's EHS programs and systems
  • Experience working in or across various GE subsidiaries or businesses
  • Extensive experience working with industry Environmental organizations
  • Strong understanding of legal requirements associated with Environmental issues
  • Experience with ISO certification programs, or other major Environmental programs
  • Currently residing within the region
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and interact cross functionally
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with internal and external customers, and all levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to facilitate and conduct presentations with large and small groups
  • Ability to be a change agent and interact across the function. Serves as coach and mentor to other EHS professionals
