Role Summary:

The Sr Software Engineer will colaborate with other co-located talented full stack software engineers to develop web services for GE Digital's identity and access management solutions. They will be integral to defining the future of identities at GE while working in an agile development environment, building state of the art software solutions.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and integrate with existing applications by implementing new features and fixing defects.
  • Produce functional unit and load tests to improve code quality and maximize code coverage for new and existing features.
  • Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts.
  • Ability to take ownership of small and medium sized tasks and deliver while mentoring and helping team members.
  • Has the ability to analyze impact of technology choices.
  • Helps drive pair programming practices and code reviews across the team.
  • Demonstrates awareness or product positioning and key differentiators.
  • Expert in writing code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project.
  • Demonstrates the initiative to explore alternate technology and approaches to solving problems.
  • Skilled in core data structures and algorithms and implements them using appropriate chosen language.
  • Promotes transparency by proactively sharing design choices with appropriate audiences, with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness.
  • Demonstrates expert understanding of functional and nonfunctional requirements and their priority within the backlog.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in software development OR Master’s degree with 3 years of experience in software development
  • GE Leadership Program Graduates will get credit towards relevant work experience, commensurate to the program they have completed
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job.

    Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with web services frameworks and related technologies such as Java, Spring, Springboot, REST, JSON
  • Experience with opensource authentication protocols and related technology including OpenID Connect, oAuth2.0, and SAML
  • Experience with UI front end development technologies such as Angular, Ember, React, or Polymer
  • Experience with relational database development and related technologies
  • Experience with directory based technologies and LDAP
  • Experience with common development practices including CI/CD pipelines, test automation, agile development, distributed version control, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective team building and problem solving abilities
  • Persists to completion, especially in the face of overwhelming odds and setbacks. Pushes self for results.
