Role Summary: As a Staff Technical Writer, you will be responsible for working independently on components of an information development project. You will contribute to the team on a variety of projects and provide guidance to other team members as needed. You will contribute to the team and work independently.
Essential Responsibilities: • Outstanding writing skills, namely a command of grammar, syntax, diction, and the conventions and best practices of writing a variety of technical documents • Strong collaboration skills: ability to work with a variety of other writers and cross-functional peers easily • Excellent knowledge of core technical communication concepts, such as topic-based authoring, minimalism, task-oriented design, single-sourcing • Understanding of core information development processes: content planning, content creation, content review • Strong skills in the process of breaking down software processes into tasks necessary to the targeted user and effectively explaining those tasks to the user • Strong ability to collaborate with subject matter experts to research a software product, determine functionality and design features, then communicate those effectively to the user • Ability to understand user profiles and to create content targeted appropriately to meet user goals • Fundamental project management skills: ability to broadly estimate scope, ability to work to deadlines
Qualifications/Requirements: • A degree in English, Mass Communication, Journalism, BE, or any other related field. • A minimum of 9 years of experience in technical writing for enterprise products with proven ability to manage technical writing projects from start to finish independently. #DTR
Desired Characteristics: • Strong skills with the authoring tools, such as oXygen Author (DITA methodology) and MadCap Flare. • Experience with content management systems, such as Astoria and Visual Studio. • Excellent skills in editing (QA for documentation) – ability to recognize errors in a variety of information deliverables. • Strong project management skills: ability to estimate scope and time, create and work to deadlines, collaborate to create a schedule • Working knowledge of Lean/Agile/XP software development processes and how to follow processes for information development. • Working knowledge of major aspects of software design, development, and QA and how they affect the information development process • Provides input to information development strategy on a high level. • Clarity of thinking to work through limited information and vague problem definitions. • Proactive identification and removal of project obstacles or barriers on behalf of the team. • Willingness and ability to share knowledge, power, and credit, establishing trust, credibility, and goodwill.
