Role Summary: The role is Senior Power Systems Engineer in GE WAMPAC business. GE is recognized as an Industry Leader in the field of power system dynamics and Wide Area Monitoring, Protection and Control systems (WAMPAC). GE Power’s proven solutions are used by power system operators and planners worldwide for improving power system security, securely increasing power transfer levels and tracking power system performance, including dynamics, model validation, tuning of power system stabilizers and more.
The role involves leading and contributing to research and design within the core WAMS product and its interaction with related grid stability tools.
The role will also involve providing technical consulting and project services to customers addressing power system problems.
WAMPAC solutions delivery & associated training, analysis, workshops and introduction to operational service
Contribute to and lead the design and development of core WAMS and Wide Area Protection and Control products
Carry out analysis and studies as consultancy and services, involving model-based static and dynamic analysis, and measurement-based studies.
Knowledge transfer and support for customers in on-going projects, to promote increased utilization of products and follow-on business.
Technical support for sales process, including pre-sales customer presentations and workshops, pilot projects, and engagement on customer challenges.
Technical leadership, mentoring and coaching of junior Power Systems Engineers in the team
Writing technical reports and papers for conference and journal publications
Up to 25% travel for customer interaction and project meetings
MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge and experience, with preferred focus on Power System Dynamics, Transients, Stability and Control.
Must be fluent in English and be able to communicate effectively over teleconference and in face-to-face meetings
Must be a fast learner and be able to conduct research
Must be able to solve problems in a holistic manner and be able to work individually and in the team
Must be willing to develop leadership skills, mentor and coach more junior team members
Experience of Matlab/Simulink programming would be beneficial
Experience with GE/Alstom network management products would be beneficial including GE/Alstom EMS and WAMS products, as well as familiarity with other SCADA/EMS solutions
Experience with HVDC solutions, including simulations and controls, as well as familiarity with RTDS-based simulations and testing, would be beneficial
Utility experience would be beneficial - in particular, experience in operations, planning and/or power system analysis using industry standard tools including PSCAD, PSS/E, DigSilent Powerfactory or Powertech DSA Tools
