Role Summary: The Lead Weld Engineer will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and weld / braze processes for the Norwich site. In this role you'll utilize your experience & expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for yourself and supporting the welding team. This individual will be responsible for training, certifying, recertifying and assisting the quality group with NADCAP matters.
Investigating and applying new technologies for TIG & spot welding, as well as induction and torch brazing processes
Weld / Braze process development and manufacturing documentation
Managing the site training program for welding & brazing certifications
Leading the site NADCAP weld & braze program and providing audit support
Managing and programming robotic equipment (i.e., laser welder)
Coordinating with Design & Engineering teams to ensure manufacturability and automation of welding & braze processes
Promoting customer satisfaction and developing positive customer relationships, both internal & external to the site operations
Responsible for attaining all aspects of production operation including safety, scheduling, quality and team development in assigned areas
Scheduling, resolving issues, tracking material availability and advising on material usage
Planning and implementing process engineering activities for new product development and current product support, including re-work instructions
Providing manufacturing method development and improvement for current and new products
Determining safe manufacturing processes that produce a quality product in the most efficient method of manufacture
Assisting supervisors and production employees in resolving manufacturing process problems
Conducting training, process planning, evaluating operating methods, selecting controls, and specifying tools, fixtures and gauges
Maintaining the manufacturing engineering system on part routing, standards, and weld / braze schedules
Pursuing continuous improvement for quality and cost reductions in designated areas
Acting as a change agent, understanding and moving the operation toward world-class performance
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Manufacturing)
A minimum of 2 years of experience in welding / braze technology
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT :
This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
Bachelor’s degree in Weld Engineering Technology or a related metal joining process from an accredited university or college
Knowledge of NADCAP weld and braze certification preferred
Experience in other weld process technology such as laser beam welding
Ability to make data driven decisions and utilize Six Sigma and lean tools
Knowledge of safety agency regulations is preferred
Strong background in the interpretation of engineering drawings / weld symbols and manufacturing processes
Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail
Leadership Program Graduate is preferred (GE employees only)
Ability to manage multiple assignments
Knowledge of ISO / quality procedures
Strong problem identification, analytical and problem solving skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Ability to influence others and lead teams
Lead initiatives of site wide scope and impact
