Role Summary: Operates a variety of heavy equipment to excavate, move, and grade earth, or to rig and move heavy loads. To perform various duties relative to the Collection and disposal of hazardous waste material throughout the plant.
Essential Responsibilities: To perform the function in accordance with the following duties:
Heavy Equipment : Works from equipment specifications and manuals, drawings, sketches, written and verbal instructions Reviews information provided and visits work site if necessary to determine the best way to excavate the hole for foundations, grade the earth, etc. Operates a variety of heavy equipment such as, but not limited to, back hoe, boom crane, front end loader, scraper, and grader to excavate, move and grade earth Prior to vehicle operation, checks to insure that all controls are functioning properly and that fluid levels are correct Makes minor on-the-job repairs or adjustment as required Drives equipment to work site and secures in place Checks for obstruction, both inside and outside such as underground electrical cables, water pipes, overhead wires, adjacent equipment, and walls Adjusts hand wheels and depresses pedals to drive machine and control attachments such as blades, brackets, scrapers, etc. Excavates earth to proper depth, loads on truck or piles adjacent to work site, fills holes with rocks, etc. as required Cleans up area upon completion of assignment Reviews information provided to determine best method to rig and move load Determines weight to be lifted, selects proper clamps, straps, slings and other necessary holding devices Responsible for rigging loads to assure that the weight and balance is within the capacity of the crane and that applicable safety standards are complied with when rigging, hoisting and moving heavy loads Operates crane to pick up and place cumbersome loads into exact location, maneuvering cranes in close quarters as necessary Maintains logs and reports necessary for preventive maintenance and service records Communicates with management and supervision by verbal, written and electronic means May be required to perform a variety of other tasks within the job family group when not performing above duties Hazardous Waste Removal : 1. Removes hazardous waste material from various areas of the plant as required Operates fork lift to drive to and from designated areas within the plant to deliver and pick up drums Stores drums in designated area of shed 2. Consolidates and labels contents of drums as required Stores in designated area for subsequent pick up by outside vendors Assists in loading drums in vendor’s trucks 3. Must be knowledgeable of the procedures and regulations governing the storage and handling hazardous waste material Maintains storage shed in clean, safe, and orderly condition 4. Assumes responsibility for minor maintenance and appearance for assigned fork lift truck Reports any malfunctioning equipment to supervisor 5. Industrial process waste water handling, management, inspecting and recordkeeping 6. Maintain compliance with NPDES Stormwater permit including training, inspecting, recordkeeping 7. Distributing bulk chemicals from chemical cages/freezers to manufacturing location
Qualifications/Requirements: High School Diploma / GED
