Role Summary:
 
The Europe Region of Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE) is one of the most dynamic regions for BHGE.  The Europe Region includes United Kingdom, Norway (including the North Sea), and Continental Europe.
 
BHGE is seeking a lawyer with Oil & Gas / Energy experience to assume the role of Legal Counsel, Germany.  Based in Celle, the Legal Counsel will provide legal advice and support to the local team and will report directly to the Managing Region Counsel for Europe.
 
To a great extent, the Legal Counsel will work autonomously in managing BHGE’s legal affairs in Germany and will be entrusted with advising management on critical legal matters, while maintaining an acute focus on key business drivers.
  
Essential Responsibilities:
 
  • Overall responsibility for the management of the legal and compliance affairs in Germany, including requisite Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other related training;
  • Apprise local management team on risks and exposures;
  • Interface with suppliers, business partners, and government agencies;
  • Participate in high stakes negotiations, innovative deal structuring (joint ventures, strategic alliances, joint research and/or development, etc.);
  • Assess, appoint and manage outside counsel;
  • Manage, and/or work together with other Legal Groups to manage litigation in Germany, including determination of reserves/accruals and reporting thereof;
  • Participation in management of agents including, but not limited to, due diligence or terminations thereof;
  • Management of matters relating to threatened / potential litigation, including high dollar (i.e. multi-million USD) value debt collection;
  • Together with other Legal Groups, participate in managing notable issues relating to customer contracts, corporate administration, labor and employment, trade compliance/customs, tax and corporate compliance;
  • Review / negotiate / draft various agreements, including those related to vendors, agents, nondisclosure agreements, memoranda of understanding, licensing of intellectual property, purchasing, manufacturing, and other domestic and international commercial agreements.
Qualifications/Requirements:
 
  • Must be qualified to practice law in Germany with 3 to 5 years PQE 
  • Must be fluent in both English and German.
  • Oil & Gas/ Energy Industry experience preferred.
