Role Summary: The Lead Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist will provide direction and assistance to work group in order to meet assigned objectives. In this role, you will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate to high complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
Essential Responsibilities: As the Lead Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, you will:
Provide input to site management on various EHS issues and facilitate EHS Teams
Initiate and influence integration of EHS policies and practices into the business
Assist in implementation of EHS programs and procedures to ensure compliance (assist in incident investigations, risk reduction planning, risk assessments, audits, etc.)
Develop and maintain general knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements
Assist associates, consultants and contractors on related EHS issues
Administer compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems
Assist in conducting EHS training and development programs
Assist in issue resolution and EHS project management
Be the liaise and develop solid relationships with internal and external customers (back-up for the EHS Leader in his/her absence)
Aid in the review of all existing machinery in the facility, prioritize list of EHS actions, and facilitate completion of identified projects
Complete environmental reporting and inspections for Local, State and Federal authorities
Participate and incorporate EHS into process / production changes (drive the MOC process and EHS Management system)
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, other related technical field or Project Management from an accredited university or college (or High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety)
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Health and Safety
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Ability to influence others and lead small teams
Lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact
Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
Effective problem identification and solution skills
Proven analytical and organizational ability
Knowledgeable on the applicable EHS regulatory requirements
Demonstrated ability in driving proactive compliance assurance and EHS culture
Demonstrated self-starter with ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects / responsibilities simultaneously
Effective influencing skills - proven ability to work with supervisory and hourly employees
Results-oriented: drive effective short-term actions within the context of a longer term system improvement vision
Proficiency with computers and digital / online systems
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, effectively communicate internally and externally across all organizational levels, departments, and functions
Demonstrate change agent skills
Detail-oriented and highly organized (5S experience)
ISO 14001 or similar ISO experience
