Role Summary:
Works with the Global Tax Controller – Oilfield Services (OFS) on oversight and management of global tax compliance and provisioning for Baker Hughes, a GE Company’s OFS businesses and responsibility for specific tax compliance programs and initiatives. Supports development and recommendation of tax policy and provides technical advice with respect to areas of assigned responsibilities.

Essential Responsibilities:
In the role of Assistant Global Tax Controller – OFS, you will:

  • Assist cash tax and ETR forecasting for assigned OFS Legal Entities (LEs)/Company Codes
  • Assist in closing OFS’s quarterly tax books, including required reporting to headquarters and external auditors. Items include managing the provision process, completing effective tax rate, Uncertain Tax Positions, balance sheet fluxes, etc.
  • Oversee the accounting and reconciliation of all income tax accounts on assigned OFS Legal Entities (LEs)/Company Codes
  • Complete the US return-to-provision process including tax basis balance sheet analysis for assigned OFS Legal Entities (LEs)/Company Codes
  • Manage world-wide OFS return to provision process for assigned OFS Legal Entities (LEs)/Company Codes
  • Lead identification, tracking and accruals of qualified amended return adjustments for US tax filings of assigned OFS LEs/Company Codes
  • Support financial reporting for taxes for the integration with Baker Hughes as well as the tax accounting for the joint venture partners
  • Support tax, finance and other internal stakeholders to drive the efficient utilization of tax provision software tools, processes and procedures for calculating the tax provision and related uncertain tax position documentation
  • Manage relevant OFS global compliance processes and SOX 404 documentation
  • Assist with responses to external and internal audit teams to support financial statement
  • Provide support on ad hoc business and tax planning initiatives including recommending and implementing process changes to improve operations or reduce tax risks
  • Provide tax accounting support and journal entries for business restructuring including intercompany accounting

    Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or business-related field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 6 years of public accounting, law firm or multinational business experience in the Oil & Gas Industry

    Desired Characteristics:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in US GAAP accounting for income taxes and tax compliance processes knowledge and experience in accounting for federal Income taxes and analysis for federal income taxes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and influence others, both directly and indirectly as well as operate effectively in a matrixed environment
  • Excellent research, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Comprehensive understanding of ASC 740
  • Advanced degree such as Masters in Tax (MST), JD or LLM from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Public Accounting or other tax related roles, with focus on tax controllership, preferably within GE or Oil & Gas industry
  • Understanding of GE operating mechanisms & financial management practices
  • Adaptable/flexible to be open to change (positive or negative) in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work in ambiguous situations
  • Integrity to accept and adhere to high moral, ethical, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to influence others across business functions and within the matrix organization
  • Expert with data analytics and PC skills with proficient experience using financial systems/applications (i.e.: ERP, Oracle, HFM, Business Objects, etc.), strong Excel skills in data compilation and aggregation such as pivot tables, V-lookup and Macros
  • Lead largely through strong influencing and change management skills. Look for the best solutions by seeking, sharing, and partnering with others to identify best practices globally for simplification and adopting them to applicable OFS tax processes.
  • Self-starter and quick learner with a commitment to meet deadlines
