Role Summary: As a Sr. Manager of software engineering at Application Adoption and Extension group, you will apply your knowledge of management, software development methodologies, data modeling/simulation tools, DevOps tools, architectural aspects, automation, application monitoring, best practices and efficient processes to build, maintain and operate GE Applications extensions, tools, and the environment, within planned schedule with superb quality and high availability.
Essential Responsibilities: GE Applications extensions, tools, and the environment include monitoring and management portal, automated provisioning and configuration, data modeling and ingestion (with simulated and live data to illustrate compelling use cases), API extensions and management, as well as health monitoring tools.
You will work with product management, solution architecture, application engineering, DevOps, and partner engagement teams very closely. You will play a very critical role in successful adoption of GE Applications by enabling both internal and external partner ecosystem.
In this role, you will: • Build a rock-solid and high-performance software engineering team that can support GE partners and customers globally • Demonstrate very strong technical leadership and people management skills including solid communication and analytical skills with thorough understanding of product & solution development, successful problem definition, decomposition, estimation and resolution • Influence decision making through active partnership with cross-functional teams • Contribute on technical aspects in strategic and day to day decisions and work, including dev ops/automation aspects, solution architecture and use case definitions. • Help lead strategic business partnerships and relationships through Technical, Budgetary, Contractual and Planning • Lead deployment (and related automation, monitoring, etc.) of GE Digital Applications in Predix instances across the world • Lead development/integration of DDL (Digital Demo Lounge) Application demo store catalog & reservation system • Coach, mentor and lead a diverse group of lean/agile software and user experience engineers • Work with product owners across the businesses that will contribute their applications to demo store • Work directly with internal and external customers to understand business and technical needs • Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse • Support process improvements which guide the development, sustaining & support activities • Keep project data relating to tracking and financials current • Deliver resource strategy and plans, including use of 3rd parties/partners, etc., in support of development and support activities • Plan and manage budgets related to scope of team • Communicate effectively both within immediate team and GE leadership. Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy and results • Build a high performing software development & operations team
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in Software Engineering & Technical team leadership OR Master’s degree with 8 years of experience in Software Engineering & Technical team leadership
2+ years in an Agile, Kanban, Scrum or other development methodology
Minimum 1 year of experience in an engineering leadership / management role

Must be willing to travel (about 15% of the time within US and worldwide)

Desired Characteristics: • Prior experience with GE’s APM (Asset Performance Management) product and other application product portfolio is preferred • Have experience and mindset of professional services or system integration engineer • Expert in DevOps tools / automation (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt, etc.), application & solution architecture, application monitoring (using tools such as New Relic, Kibana/logstash), data generation/simulation tools and use case definitions • Expertise / knowledge in tools/technologies such as Docker, Cloud Foundry, AWS, Artifactory, Nexus, Git, SVN, Rally • Expert in tools development using Java, Python, Ruby, Go or other language of choice • Expert in web services (REST, SOAP, OAuth etc.), SQL, NoSQL database types and IaaS/PaaS/SaaS technologies • Recognizes patterns and complexity in problems • Defines vision and plan for the engineering team to meet stakeholders’ and customer needs. Lays out roadmap • Demonstrates mastery of the intricacies of interactions and dynamics in Agile teams. Guides new teams to adopt Agile, troubleshoots adoption efforts, and guide continuous improvement. Actively embraces new methods and practices that increase efficiency and effectiveness. • Prioritizes projects based on an assessment of competitive needs. Anticipates areas of competitive vulnerability and offers plans to mitigate them • Evangelizes new technology, predicts trends, and identifies new opportunities based on trends. • Creates a culture of customer focus and high performance to drive innovation.
