Role Summary:
The Lead Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading mid to large size manufacturing projects. He must follow a steep learning curve in the first phases of the job in order to develop the know-how required to perform the aforementioned projects, that may address both gears manufacturing and housing manufacturing. More specifically he will be accountable for granting capacity, quality, cost out and flow time for a specific part family made of welded gearshafts and similar components.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Outline and implement the capacity, quality, cost out and flow strategy for the aforementioned part family
  • Carry on all the data gathering and the analysis required for the definition of the problem – be it about capacity, quality, cost out or flow- and then identify a solution consistent with the required timing (especially in the case of capacity issues)
  • Follow the steps of a DMAIC six sigma project as far as concerns the quality improvement activities he/she will need to perform. Report out accordingly.
  • Develop the modified manufacturing processes allowing for the achievement of the aforementioned targets
  • Implement the modified processes, i.e. carry on the machinery acquisition process, carry on the fixture modification or acquisition process, carry on the tooling selection and acquisition process, cooperate with the programming team for the development of the required software (part programs), modify the router in the AvioAero PDM system, manage the validation process
  • Control –through the periodical update of proper KPIs – that the results are achieved consistently.
  • Carry out the New Product Introduction process for the assigned product family
  • Interface with vendors and internal contacts in an effective manner to ensure that the technical perspective is properly conveyed.
  • Ensure that all routers and technical data are complete and accurately documented to ensure customer requirements are properly met and flowed down to the production process

    Qualifications/Requirements:
    • Master's degree in Engineering
    • Some previous experience in a gear/housing discrete manufacturing environment
    • Some knowledge of capex acquisition process in a company similar to GE/ AvioAero
    • Experience in manufacturing line design for discrete manufacturing applications (process design, machinery & fixture selection with appropriate return on investment, capacity evaluation and lead time evaluation)
    • Ability to devise data cards for manufacturing operations
    • Experience in aerospace products validation process
    • Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications
    • Ability to analyze problems, identify root causes and provide efficient solutions.
    • Strong ability to handle diverse activities simultaneously.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to work in a matrix organization.
    • Good English, oral and written, Italian mother language.
    • EU work permit.

      Desired Characteristics:
      • Lean Manufacturing training is preferred
      • Prior experience with Lean Manufacturing is preferred.
      • Six Sigma Training/ experience is preferred
      • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
      • Inclusiveness and ability to effectively work in team.
      • Strong oral and written communication skills.
      • Ability to communicate effectively and contribute to team projects.
