Role Summary: The Radiation Protection Manager is the leader and technical expert for the GEH / GNF nuclear radiation protection programs, reporting to the General Manager of EHS-Nuclear. In close partnership with operations, the program manager will provide strategic focus and technical leadership for of the radiation protection function. The Radiation Protection Manager will provide overall technical mentoring and guidance to other safety professionals in the business.
Essential Responsibilities: As the Radiation Protection Manager, you will:
Provide leadership and programmatic guidance of the GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) / Global Nuclear Fuels (GNF) radiation protection program function
Be responsible for all programmatic safety, compliance and process improvement elements of the radiation protection program including procedures, training, audits, data trending, compliance assessments, regulatory interface, independent oversight, nuclear safety culture and technical support for the GEH / GNF nuclear business
Be responsible for managing program leaders in radiation protection as they support coordination of activities on all shifts and effective utilization of manpower of RP staff that provide technical support to facility managers on radiation protection control measures in the facility
Serve as interface between GNFA radiation protection program and GEH senior business leadership team
Be responsible for staffing and organizational support activities needed to support business commitments to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for compliance with 10CFR70
Support emergency response planning and events
Assess the effectiveness of the radiation protection program through independent audits and surveillance
Bachelor’s Degree in science or engineering
Minimum of 5 years of nuclear industry experience in radiation protection related activities
Master’s Degree in nuclear / radiological engineering, physics or Health Physics
Doctorate Degree in nuclear / radiological engineering, physics or Health Physics
Certification by the American Board of Health Physics
Experience leading professionals
Experience with 10CFR70 licensing and ISA program implementation
Active DOE Q-clearance
Experience with 10CFR71 and IAEA transportation licensing
Green Belt certified (GE candidates only) or equivalent quality certification
Proficient in standard Microsoft Office applications
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interface at all levels of the organization
