Role Summary: Due to increased production demands, GE Aviation in Norwich, NY has an opening for a 1st shift Assembler / Tester Level 2 in our Metal Joining Department. The first shift hours are from 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.
Essential Responsibilities: Perform all level 1 functions in addition to level 2. Train Level 1 employees; Assist in leading team initiatives. More frequent interaction with internal and/or external customers and support functions (i.e. – Planners, Engineering) outside of home department. May act as primary contact for auditors. Perform set up operations of more technical equipment as required by department following proper training. Perform duties on proto-type or first time builds. Possess inspection stamp as required. Possess knowledge and assembly skills to work on more difficult parts. May require FAA certification. Perform troubleshooting responsibilities. Other duties as required by department.
May assist with proto-type or first time builds with guidance from higher level employees
Assists Engineering and / or Team in development and / or improvement of layout procedures and process sheets
Perform inventory counts and verification
Review expiration date of materials to ensure materials & equipment to ensure all are current
Operate high temperature ovens and furnaces
Assemble parts according to process sheet / print instructions
Perform testing as required (i.e. – dielectric, meggar, hipot, etc.)
Performs electrical, mechanical, magnetic testing as required
Operates laser marker, electro-etch & vibropene as required
Perform in-process hi-pot testing
Perform basic set up of fixtures
Perform vapor blasting as required
Solder Certified as required
Braze Certified as required
Possess certification on Electro-Static discharge as required
Proactively work to improve efficiency and quality of products
Good housekeeping skills
Utilize proper PPE, safety equipment, and follow safety procedures
Other duties as required per department
o High School Diploma and/or GED o Special education and/or training to support level 2 knowledge
Skill Level Required :
oLevel 1 skills required. o Intermediate understanding of blueprint and process sheet interpretation. o Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (i.e. – Word, Excel, etc.) o Perform basic Oracle transactions as required. o Must be proficient in performing level 1 responsibilities and illustrate capabilities to successfully perform level 2 responsibilities. o Prior working knowledge of assembly operations, preferably 1-3 years of experience
Proficient in use of basic computer applications
Basic understanding of blueprint and process sheet interpretation
Understanding of basic mathematical principles
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT :
Visual Acuity Exam is required
This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
Previous manufacturing experience preferred
Preferred assembly, solder experience and electronics manufacturing experience
Be comfortable working with multiple chemicals and / or gas compounds
Past experience in a self-directed teaming environment
Familiarity with 6S & lean manufacturing knowledge
