Role Summary: Provides legal leadership and strategic legal advice to the Life Sciences business within GE Healthcare. Key areas of focus include: resolving corporate business issues to drive business growth and more integrated and efficient processes; and ensuring appropriate management of compliance, litigation, and governmental/regulatory matters. This role can operate out of Marlborough MA, or Amersham UK.
Be an active business partner to the Life Sciences Executive team, continually working to identify strategic opportunities to increase growth/reduce costs and engage in intelligent risk taking
Drive cross-business, global, and regional synergies to maximize effectiveness of the global GE Healthcare legal team
Advise the business on commercial, regulatory, litigation, privacy, antitrust, improper payments, and advertising/promotional matters
Provide regulatory and compliance advice and training in conjunction with the Regulatory and Compliance specialist areas in GE Healthcare
Apply business and legal judgment to proposed deals, relationships, and other issues requiring legal or compliance attention
Collaborate with regional legal colleagues and subject matter experts to analyze and advise GE Healthcare's Life Sciences business on complex legal/compliance issues that arise out of Life Sciences’ global operations
Structure and negotiate complex transactions and oversee outside counsel
In conjunction with GEHC Chief Litigation Counsel, coordinate management of Life Sciences litigation
Support Compliance investigations and projects and lead GE Healthcare Life Sciences Compliance Review Boards
Manage and develop GE Healthcare Life Sciences legal team
JD (or equivalent) with active bar membership.
Significant experience providing legal advice to a global health care and/or life sciences business
Experience advising on legal issues related to: regulated product development, complex commercial transactions, business development activities including product in-licensing and disposition, 3rd party corporate, government and academic collaborations, and global supply strategies.
Significant experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry and previous exposure to pharma/healthcare industry regulations, particularly including a pharmaceutical and biotech focus
Demonstrated experience identifying and resolving legal issues quickly and effectively and ability to make on the spot risk calls.
Demonstrated experience prioritizing conflicting demands from multiple business clients in an extremely fast-paced environment.
Ability to communicate using English (or other local language) and outstanding interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated experience providing strategic and pragmatic legal advice in a highly-regulated environment.
Experience in the Healthcare industry and previous exposure to medical industry regulations (FDA, Medicare/Medicaid anti-kickback)
Litigation and internal investigation experience, particularly in the healthcare context
Experience in international trade controls
Experience in advising on competition/antitrust legal issues
Experience in pharmacy regulation
Experience with generic pharmaceuticals or biosimilars and pharmaceutical life cycle management
