Role Summary:
You will be responsible for designing and programming a small module or a large component and designing a feature, set of features, or whole feature area. She/he will work independently and contribute to the immediate team and to other teams across business. She/he will Lead design discussions.

Essential Responsibilities:
The Software Development Manager is accountable for the delivery of software product(s) assigned to his team.

You play the role of scrum master for scrum teams and working closely with technical product managers, ensure good product quality and consistent velocity for the teams.

You will be responsible for hiring, coaching and mentoring a team of software engineers (8 to 10) with the goal of building a cohesive, autonomous team, able to work through technical, schedule and interpersonal challenges.

In collaboration with other scrum teams, you will evolve and adopt best practices across the SDLC, including story definition, development, automated testing, continuous build and integration and story acceptance, with the goal of continuous improvement towards building a high performing team.

Manage strategic business partnerships and relationships with vendors as needed.

Manage customer cases escalated into engineering. Work with professional services organization in customizing solutions.
Expect to spend a third of the time each in the areas of people management, technical reviews and project management.

Be a seasoned technical voice on the team, able to weigh in on design and implementation decisions, technology choices, keeping security, licensing, supportability in view.




Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in Software Development OR Master’s degree with 6 years of experience in Software Development.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills.
  • Must be willing to travel
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Boston


Desired Characteristics:
Technical Expertise:
  • Understand delivery of both, desktop and web-based software products, in the context of new product development and sustaining engineering.
  • Experience delivering commercial software as a SAAS offering in the cloud.
  • Hands on technical experience developing software on Windows and Linux.
  • Prior experience with build tools, continuous integration, automation and dev ops is desired.
  • Expert at working in an Agile engineering environment
  • Hands-on experience in web services (REST, Web Sockets), SQL Database such as Oracle MySQL, PostgreSQL etc.
  • Hands-on experience in utilizing Spring Framework (Core, MVC, Integration and Data)
  • Hands-on experience with web development using HTML5, Java Script, jQuery, CSS.

Business Acumen:
  • Strong problem solving abilities and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignments
  • Experience in building scalable and highly available distributed systems
  • Expert in breaking down problems and estimate time for development tasks
  • Evangelizes how our technology solves customer problems from a technology and business perspective

Leadership:
  • Prior leadership role is preferred
  • Mentors and guides the career development of engineers on his team.
  • Demonstrates clarity of thinking to work through limited information and vague problem definitions
  • Influences through others; builds direct and "behind the scenes" support for ideas
  • Proactively identifies and removes project obstacles or barriers on behalf of the team
  • Shares knowledge, power, and credit, establishing trust, credibility, and goodwill

Personal Attributes:
  • Able to work under minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity
  • Able to work well with global teams, including time-zone flexibility
