Role Summary:

The Sr. Software Engineer - Mobile will work with the customer, product owner, UX (User Experience) designer, and development team to implement streamlined and high performance mobile capability and user experience for a software product. You will be a member of an integrated squad working together to deliver successful outcomes on the GE Predix platform.

Essential Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

  • Responsible for programing a component, feature and or feature set.
  • Work independently and contributes to the immediate team and to other teams across business.
  • Contribute to design discussions.
  • Demonstrate ability to break down problems, document problem statements and estimate efforts.
  • Take ownership of small and medium sized tasks and deliver while mentoring and helping team members.
  • Demonstrate ability to analyze impact of technology choices.
  • Helps drive pair programming practices and code reviews across the team.
  • Demonstrates awareness or product positioning and key differentiators.
  • Demonstrate the initiative to explore alternate technology and approaches to solving problems.
  • Work with core data structures and algorithms and implements them using appropriate chosen language.
  • Promote transparency by proactively sharing design choices with appropriate audiences, with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness.
  • Demonstrate expert understanding of functional and nonfunctional requirements and their priority within the backlog.
  • Be responsible for providing technical leadership and defining, developing, and evolving software in a fast paced and agile development environment using the latest software development technologies and infrastructure
  • Provide technical leadership to an agile team of 5-7
  • Work with Product Line Leaders (PLLs) to understand product requirements & vision
  • Translate requirements / vision into prioritized list of user stories and deliver to required timelines and quality standards
  • Work with product line leaders and architects to develop multi generation software technology plans
  • Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse
  • Support process improvements which guide the development, sustaining & support activities
  • Coach, mentor and lead the team
  • Work cross functionally with other business departments to align activities and deliverables
  • Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products
  • Communicate effectively both within immediate team and also across leadership team and with PLLs
  • Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy and results
  • Engage subject matter experts in successful transfer of complex domain knowledge
  • Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile/XP, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, refactoring and Testing Techniques
  • Understand performance parameters and assess application performance
  • Proactively share information across the team, to the right audience with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness


Qualifications/Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM, a similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in IT OR Master’s degree with 3 years of experience IT.
  • GE Leadership Program Graduates will get credit towards relevant work experience, commensurate to the program they have completed

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job
  • Must be willing to travel
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in New Orleans, Louisiana

Technical Expertise:

  • Previous experience with the GE Software Center of Excellence Predix platform.
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment
  • 2+ years experience with Swift and iOS
  • 2+ years experience with Objective-C and iOS/Mac
  • 2+ years experience with Android
  • 2+ years experience with JavaScript (AngularJS, ReactJS)
  • 2+ years experience writing unit tests
  • 2-3 years experience with Java
  • 1-2 years experience with C/C++
  • Understanding of backend systems and how to integrate with online services
  • Experience with Cordova, NativeScript, React Native
  • Experience using a CI system to automate builds.
  • Trained in TDD/BDD development
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification.
  • Previous experience with Cloud Foundry/PaaS
  • Experience with SQLite
  • Experience with NOSQL databases
  • Understanding of CI systems
  • Understanding of GitHub and Git pull requests
  • Working knowledge of Responsive Design concepts and frameworks
