Role Summary: The Lead Test Engineer - Engine Starting Products will provide support for, and be a critical contributor to the Unison starting products engineering group and production operation. You will interface between the engineering design and project teams, hourly support personnel, and customer facing contributors to design, set up and execute a variety of tests and analyses involving systems, subsystems, and components of high speed rotating equipment.
In addition you will :
Establish and enact test plans for turbine and power transmission subassemblies and complete starter assemblies both on-site and on customer site testing
Lead technical personnel in all aspects of engineering test validation
Create and manage overall scheduling for assigned tests
Make technical decisions by applications of specialized knowledge / skills
Analyze data test results and assist in preparation of necessary summary documentation
Perform and analyze basic and advanced testing and analysis to support design and development and test objectives
Participate in recurring, cooperative test planning, and reporting activities;
Participate in technology and program level reviews
Take direction from Design and Project Leads and the Test Group Leader
Provide hands-on support to the technical teams through preparation and execution of test programs and test set-up and test execution
Develop test plans with the engineering team to ensure proper validation of the components under test
Abide by and provide necessary improvement support for existing AS9100 Quality System
Develop and maintain appropriate test procedures, documentation, and training materials
Write and develop LabVIEW programs to automate and monitor tests
Support usage of, revision to, and general organization existing LabView programs;
Assist in the general maintenance, upkeep, and improvement in the lab and its capabilities by ensuring that the systems and equipment are functioning properly
Ensure proper safeguards are established and maintenance performed for all equipment required for purposes of testing and testing support
Participate in process improvement projects
Work with the Plant Engineering on new construction, and upgrades to existing equipment
Provide training and direction to technicians
Devise and implement safety and control strategies to ensure protection of personnel and equipment and to drive technology improvements
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Physics from an accredited University or College (Or a High School diploma / GED with a minimum of 7 years of engineering test technical experience)
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a test engineer position
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT :
This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment
Minimum of 5 years of experience in testing, test evaluation, and a manufacturing environment
Experience working with high speed rotating equipment
Experience working with high pressure pneumatic and hydraulic systems;
Ability to translate design specifications to test plans
Experience working with precision data transducers for both mechanical and electrical signal data acquisition
High electro-mechanical aptitude
Experience working with reciprocating diesel engines and gas turbine engines and engine control
Experience with engine maintenance
Experience with LabView for both data acquisition and control applications
Experience with Matlab and Microsoft Office tools
Experience with high speed data acquisition software and hardware
Experience with AC and DC motors, drives, and complex test arrangements
Ability to understand complex engineering principles / situations / problems
Strong time management skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work with non-technical personnel on technical matters
Ability to work in a demanding Research and Development environment
Ability to interact with customers
Strong organization, communication, and writing skills
