Role Summary: Plan and perform diversified operations required to set up and operate CNC numerical controlled lathes both 2-axis and 4-axis lathes, to machine company product component parts in process of ferrous, nonferrous and alloy metals to the satisfaction of the supervisor. Work involves the assignment to any one or more of the NC / CNC lathes proving out computer programs collaborating with Programmer and Manufacturing Engineer on programming and setup of prototype work and initial tryout.
Essential Responsibilities: In the role of Machine Operator, you will:
Work may involve assignment to any one or more of the secondary machines in the department including manual turret lathes, Bridgeport Mill, Radial drills, and multi-spindle drill, air testers, band saws, gluing equipment, and miscellaneous assembly quipment
Receive direction from supervisor
Work from detail parts drawings, work orders, setup, tooling, process and operating instruction sheets, and digital program
Use high precision electrical / electronic and conventional measurement instruments
Collaborate in the development of new machine programs, first run trials, and make recommendations on operation sequence, speeds, feeds, cycle times, and tooling equipment
Edit and input correction to computer console to revise program and enter applicable data to setup sheets
Review parts program file and select set tools in tool holder, turret or cross slide location
Operate console to enter prescribed program setup and offset data, back off tool offsets, and check out with dry run
Edit the program as required
Detect and report faulty operations, defective material and equipment, drawing discrepancies, and all other unusual conditions to proper supervisor
Oil and grease machine, perform mechanical repairs, replenish coolant and replace cutting inserts and tools, as required
Maintain workplace in neat and orderly condition
High School diploma or GED from an accredited school or institution
Minimum 6 months of experience in a manufacturing environment
Work overtime, weekends and holidays, as required
Work in a constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending and other physical activities
Be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as required
Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Be subjected to extreme heat for extended periods of time
Advanced shop mathematics
Thorough knowledge of machining methods, tools, and cutting qualities of materials
Ability to demonstrate a satisfactory knowledge of the use of inspection equipment
