Role Summary:
The Operation & Maintenance (O&M) - Control Room Operator will operate the plant with an emphasis on personnel and equipment safety, environmental compliance and efficient operation.



Essential Responsibilities:
As the Control Room Operator, you will:

  • Recommend plant improvement items to improve overall plant efficiency, reliability, and safety
  • Be responsible for maintaining and documenting communication with dispatching utilities, transmission provider and gas supplier
  • Maintain shift operating logs and records
  • Perform training and qualification of other operations staff as required to support training and qualification requirements
  • Follow all management approved rules, standards, procedures, governmental requirements, company policies, and follow consistently and completely
  • Operate and maintain the latest state of the art technology and equipment
  • Aggressively maintains a safe working environment to include good housekeeping practices of assigned work area and complies with all applicable environmental, health and safety policies
  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs to correct the cause of any operational abnormality or problem
  • Monitor bulk chemical and compressed gas deliveries
  • Support the handling and transferring of bulk chemicals and compressed gasses as necessary
  • Monitor plant water chemistry parameters and taking corrective action as necessary to maintain optimal control of system chemistry while maintaining efficient chemical use
  • Help perform emergency operations during unit trips and abnormal operating conditions to place plant equipment in a safe operating condition
  • Operate all plant equipment / systems within scope of job responsibility
  • Position and configure plant equipment for proper operation
  • Respond to alarms and malfunctions of plant operations and takes the necessary corrective measures
  • Support mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks, inspections and troubleshooting as required
  • Perform overhaul maintenance and system improvement tasks as assigned
  • Initiate maintenance work orders as necessary to maintain plant equipment reliability and plant availability
  • Report all abnormal plant conditions to the Shift Supervisor
  • Assist with plant Lockout / Tag Out procedures
  • Help write and updates plant operating procedures
  • Assist in plant drawing updates of Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID's) and other documentation as needed
  • Communicate effectively with all plant personnel



Qualifications/Requirements:
  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Minimum of 5 years of power plant operating experience of a large combined cycle facility

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening
  • Possess manual dexterity required to operate keyboards, pushbuttons, dials, valves and mechanical-actuating devices
  • Ability and willingness to visually read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts and variations in color
  • Ability and willingness to frequently climb ladders, work in confined spaces, climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways at elevations of 160 feet and more, correctly wear and work using full face respirator and pass medical fit test, lift a minimum of 20lbs in various positions and 50lbs from the floor to the waist
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells, carry up to 50lbs and to see, hear, walk, and talk effectively
  • Ability and willingness to operate heavy equipment such as a man lift and forklift as required
  • Ability and willingness to work 12-hour rotating shifts
  • Ability and willingness to be on call to deal with potential power plant problems or outages, as required
  • Ability and willingness to safely use, handle and inspect equipment containing (and perform maintenance in close proximity to sources of) hazardous energy, hazardous chemicals and hazardous wastes as those terms are defined under various safety and environmental regulations
  • Ability and willingness to use the appropriate personal protective equipment for the hazards identified above, as required


Desired Characteristics:
  • Computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products including e-mail
  • Trade school, military service or technical training school
  • Professional training and/or boiler operator licenses
  • Experience with GE combustion turbines and/or GE steam turbine and associated control systems (GE Employees Only)
  • Experience utilizing a Distributive Control System in the operation of a power generating facility, MKVI controls
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, basic understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity and mathematics
  • Ability to respond calmly and think clearly in emergency situations
