Role Summary: A Mechanical Engineer for the Customer Application Engineering team provides direction and assistance to the work group in order to meet assigned objectives. In this role you will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
Essential Responsibilities: As a Mechanical Engineer for the Customer Application Engineering team, you will:
Design electrical distribution equipment and parts and assembly/part drawings using 2D / 3D CAD tools
Release jobs with drawing package and Bills Of Material (BOM) to the Shop based upon the customer documents using engineering tools and systems
Complete Requisition Engineering activities in a timely manner with high quality results
Interpret customer specifications and drawings as they apply to electrical distribution equipment
Prepare and submit a drawing package based upon the customer specification to obtain customer approval
Interface with customers, district sales, and field installation services personnel
Participate in VCP cost-out projects
Support the development / enhancement of system tools and techniques to drive quality and process improvements throughout engineering
2nd Level Technical Support for customers and the Shop
Complete Quality Reviews of other Req Engineers work
Complete Product Failure Analysis
Drive Continuous Improvement through Lean and Six Sigma methodology
Utilize effective communication skills in order to provide customer service and understand operational issues
Demonstrate EHS awareness and comply with all corresponding safety guidelines
Perform other duties as required
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline in STEM from an accredited college or university OR Associate’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 6 years experience in engineering
Minimum of 4 years experience in engineering
Minimum of 1 year of experience in Auto Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience
Prior experience as an Engineer in electrical distribution equipment industry
Experience working with UL, ANSI, IEEE, CAS and international standards
Six Sigma certification and Lean Manufacturing experience
Good work habits (well organized, sense of urgency, high capacity for work, and safety driven).
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
Strong project management skills including cross-functional coordination of activities
Ability to lift up to 50lbs and occasionally lift above 50lbs.
Safety responsibility to comply with site policies/procedures and report safety inefficiencies
Process focused with the ability to assess and improve processes and work methods
Proven ability to work in a dynamic, team environment
Proven ability to set and meet aggressive goals - effective multi-tasking
Proven ability to solve problems, trouble shoot, and root cause analysis to achieve results
Proven strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to interact with customers / vendors through verbal and written communication
Proven mathematical skills
Proven ability to create, read and interpret engineering drawings and documentation
Proven proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
