Role Summary:
The Principal Engineer for Controls & SCADA is an integral part of driving improvements in wind turbine performance while improving reliability. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues associated with real time controls, automation, turbine safety and SCADA, from design until validation and field implementation.

Essential Responsibilities:

Demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in the field of controls and SCADA design, validation and certification as it influences wind turbine and farm overall performance and reliability. Integrates and develops wind turbine and wind farm controls & SCADA that meet business needs across the organization and ensures the introduction of the Digital features. Involved in long-term planning for new technologies introduction and future product requirements. The Principal Engineer for Controls & SCADA in an integral part of driving improvements in wind turbine performance while improving reliability.

This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues associated with real time controls, automation, turbine safety and SCADA, from design until validation and field implementation.


  • Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long range engineering needs in the areas of controls and SCADA design requirements, development and validation to meet current and upcoming reliability standards for Renewable Engineering
  • Provide technical consultation on issues that cover controls and its implications on component failure and system operability throughout the business including supplier and field support
  • Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact such as best in-class controls, fault tolerant controls and digital transformation
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in controls technologies and reliability guidelines in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs
  • System minding with focus on operability, reliability and failure mode analysis. Contribute to the components and system modelling requirements at functional level. Interface with component-level teams to ensure component models meet fidelity and simplicity needs
  • Ensure that lessons-learned from field are fed back into the controls & SCADA development process
  • Support other GE businesses, internal & external customers, and suppliers as required
  • Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters
  • Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company
  • Coordination with other Principal engineer communities (onshore, etc.) and renewables Chief Engineers Office

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Masters of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
    • Strong experience in an engineering capacity
    • Significant experience with controls design and commissioning
    • Good understanding of Software engineering design practices
    • Creativity and innovation seeking for efficient design solutions to meet customer needs
    • Fluency in English
    • EU Work Permit

    Non-national candidates are responsible to know the minimum documentation requirements to be able to be contracted in country: NIE- Social Security Affiliation Number in Spain (NAF) and Bank Account in Spain. They must be in possession of them at the time of start hiring. GE will not sponsor this requirement.
